The Manuel DelValle, Jr. Memorial Fund

The Scholarship

The Manuel DelValle, Jr. Memorial Fund is established at The University of Maryland College Park. The goal of those involved in establishing the scholarship is that this be an endowed fund - one that will last forever. It will be awarded on an annual basis and each student receiving the award will be required to send a letter to Manny's parents explaining how the scholarship has helped him/her further their education.

Endowed scholarships are not only an investment in the university, but in providing an opportunity for generations of students to achieve a college education. This award will be awarded to a student meeting the following criteria:

- a student entering the Fire Protection Engineering Program
- a student from an inner city
- a promising student who requires additional financial support

A minimum of $10,000 is required in order to begin an endowed scholarship. The money is invested by the school and the return interest is then awarded in a scholarship. Interest returns are a minimum of 5% (meaning if there is $10,000 put into the fund, the scholarship would be for a minimum of $500). Returns have also been as high as 12%. Obviously, the more money raised, the higher the return, the higher the scholarship amount. Most important, though, is the fact that every year one student will benefit from this fund.

Fundraisers have been, and continue to be, held in order to build upon the generous donations already recieved by the university. Please visit the "Fundraisers" section of this site in order to obtain information about events that you may wish to participate in.  All money goes directly to the University of Maryland and is managed by The University of Maryland College Park Foundation, Inc.  For those wishing to make private contributions, simply download the gift form from this site and mail it, along with a check or money order, to the school. All donations are tax deductible and each donor receives a confirmation, thank you letter and receipt.
